October 10 —P2P
Point to Point 24 Hour Race
(limited to teams of two)
Hidden valley Resort, PA, to Pittsburgh, PA
This race is the newest addition to the Grass Roots Racing schedule. It is still in final production, and entry for 2009 is limited to the first 20 teams of two that send a deposit. Deposits are due by July 1st. All deposits received after the initial 20 will be returned un-cashed. All “accepted” deposits are transferable to other teams for 2009 race but are not refundable, nor transferable to 2010 race. Teams of two are welcome, and encouraged, to race together to form teams of four or more.
Approximate race distances: Biking-55 miles, Trekking 40 miles, White Water Paddling-8 miles, Flat Water Paddling-12 miles.
Race day procedure (tentative):
October 9th
7:00 pm -Racers assemble at General Robinson Parking Garage, Northshore Pittsburgh PA for gear check, gear loading, map distribution, and vehicle parking.
8:30 pm -Racers load onto chartered bus for ride to Hidden Valley.
10:00 pm-Racers arrive at Hidden Valley for photo opportunities, gear unloading, and final preparations.
12:00 am-Race start.
October 10th
11:00 am-Cut off for white water paddle. Any team missing this cut-off will trek this section and be ranked “unofficial”
11:00 pm-Cut off for flat water paddle. Any team missing this cut-off will bike this section and be ranked “unofficial”.
8:00 pm-Leaders arrive at PNC Park
1:00 am-Back of pack arrives.
This race will have very simple navigation and will be a great opportunity to get a feel for the physical demands of a 24 hour race without struggling through the more difficult mental demands. This is a great “first timers” race. Use the mail-in registration form to register now!
